Obituary: Pauline M. Godbout, 79, Of Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — (From B.C. Bailey Funeral Home): Pauline Marie Godbout, 79, of Middletown, Connecticut, passed peacefully on Feb. 3, 2024. She was a beautiful soul born unto Emile and Albertine (Hudon) Godbout in St Albans, Vermont, on April 20, 1944.

Pauline is survived by her daughters, Brenda Winter and Kelly Winter. In addition, she leaves behind her cherished granddaughters, Delaney Vumback (fiancé of Hunter Stokes) and Alexi Vumback, both the apples of her eye, who held an unparalleled spot in her huge heart. Unquestionably, Pauline was a loving and present parent and grandparent, who led by example with compassion, laughter, and acceptance.

After many years as a customer service liaison (and French translator) at Durham Manufacturing, Pauline chose to resign, in order to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a hairstylist. Thus, she returned to school to embark on this endeavor at age 60.

Although she loved the interaction with both co-workers and clients, family was truly the most important aspect of Pauline's life. Being one of 10 children, coupled with a plethora of littles (grandchildren, great nieces and nephews), Pauline's happiest moments included any and all family gatherings.

Pauline is predeceased by siblings Marielle (Ralph) Willett; Claudette (Paul) Lafontaine; Henry (Barbara) Godbout; Lionel (Kathy) Godbout; and Cecile (Brian) Brady. Besides her daughters and granddaughters, she is survived by siblings Marc (Shirl) Godbout; Lucille (Bob) Kiburtz; Rita (Dave) Soule; and Rene Godbout, along with quite a number of nieces, nephews, and their respective children. Adoringly, Pauline loved all the babies, never missing an opportunity to knit a sweater for each new addition.

Pauline's faith in God was a constant throughout her life. She lived by the bible verse, Luke 6:31, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

She was generous with her time, her love, and her smile. Pauline touched so many lives, and will be greatly missed.

A special acknowledgement and heartfelt message goes out to Pauline's sister-in-law, Sharen Winter. They loved and supported each other throughout their 50 plus year friendship. Pauline felt blessed to have Sharen's consistent presence and thoughtful care. Pauline often used the word "fortunate" when talking about her loved ones. With this said, the devotion of family, both near and far, helped Pauline by bringing laughter, joy, and support until the end of her journey on earth.
