Teen's 100 MPH Highway Jaunt In Middletown Earns Him 6 Charges: State Police

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A teen driver escaped injury when his 100 mph highway escapades in Middletown landed him down an embankment, state police said.

The crash took place at about 7 p.m. Monday, on Interstate 91 southbound near Exit 20 in Middletown.

One of the two vehicles involved in the collision — being driven by an 18-year-old male from Middletown — had gone through the guardrail along the right shoulder and careened down an embankment., state police said.

No injuries were reported.

Witnesses told state police that the teen was traveling at about 100 mph prior to the accident and was weaving in and out of the travel lanes to pass other traffic, according to an arrest report. His vehicle hit another, began to spin and ultimately went through through the guardrail and down the embankment, according to an arrest rerport/

The teen was arrested without incident and transported to Troop H, where he was charged with:

  • Failure to use a turn signal
  • Failure to carry a driver's license
  • Reckless driving
  • Improper passing
  • Failure to maintain the proper lane
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment

The teen is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on July 7.
