1 Killed In Fire In Milford: Police

The fire broke out behind a giant retailer on Friday afternoon.

MILFORD, CT — Milford police said Friday afternoon that one person has died at a homeless encampment behind Lowe's at 311 Old Gate Lane.

Police said local agencies are on the scene at the homeless encampment.

"The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it becomes available," police said.

Another person was injured, and a Milford firefighter was also hurt, WFSB 3 TV reports. Both were taken to the hospital, WFSB 3 reported.

WTNH News 8 reports that the fire was located in the woods and that the victim has not yet been identified.

Hearst CT reports that there are about a dozen encampments in the area, and the fire began shortly after noon Friday.
