2 Kayakers Rescued From Long Island Sound: Milford Authorities

The pair were in the water without personal floatation devices, authorities said.

MILFORD, CT — Two kayakers were rescued Saturday from the Long Island Sound off the coast of Milford, according to authorities.

Emergency personnel received a 911 call about the incident around 2:30 p.m. and were able to respond in less than a minute because a Milford Fire Department company was training on a boat at the time, officials said.

The department launched a jet ski and found the capsized kayak as well as its two passengers, who were in the water without personal floatation devices and being kept afloat by another kayaker, according to authorities.

One victim was brought to shore on the jet ski and the other was picked up by a private boat until the jet ski could return for the second person, officials said. Once reunited on land, the pair refused medical care, according to the department.

The kayakers were brought to safety in under 15 minutes, authorities said.
