Man Honored For Rescuing Person In Distress At Milford Beach

Police recognized the man for his "bravery and selflessness," which "played a crucial role in saving this man's life."

MILFORD, CT — Police honored a man earlier this month who saved another man at Gulf Beach in October.

The Milford Police Department posted the following on Facebook:

This week, the Milford Police Department was honored to recognize Patrick Smith by awarding him with a Civilian Commendation. Patrick witnessed a man fall off the rock wall while at Gulf Beach in October. The male was unresponsive, face down in the channel flowing toward Gulf Pond. Without hesitation, Patrick ran up to the overpass, climbed over the guardrail and down the rocks. He jumped into the water, pulling the male to the side of the waterway preventing him from being dragged by the current. He then held him stable until first responders arrived. The victim was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and ultimately survived.
