Winner Declared In Milford GOP State Senate Primary

UPDATE: Milford State Rep. Pamela Staneski, R-Milford, rolled to victory in her primary against party endorsed candidate Anthony Giannattasio, who is a long-time member of the Board of Aldermen.

The final vote tally has not been released but Staneski won by a wide margin. Staneski will be competing against former State Rep. James Maroney, D-Milford for the 14th Senatorial District Seat in November, which had long been held by Gayle Slossberg. Slossberg decided against reelection.

The Senate seat includes Milford, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge.

MILFORD, CT - Voting will take place from 6 a.m to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14th in Milford for those waging a primary race for office across the state and locally.

On the Democratic side, there are no local primaries, Ned Lamont is facing a challenge from Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim to be the party’s candidate this November for governor; for lieutenant governor, Susan Bysiewicz is facing a primary challenge from Eva Bermudez Zimmerman; for treasurer, Shawn Wooden is being challenged by Dita Bhargava; the race for attorney general is a three-way contest, between party endorsed William Tong, Paul Doyle and Chris Mattei.

On the Republican side, there are both state and local contests.

For governor, it is a five-way race between party endorsed Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, Timothy Herbst, Steve Obsitnik, Bob Stefanowski and David Stemerman; lieutenant governor is a three-way race between Joe Markley, Jayme Stevenson and Erin Stewart.

The U.S. Senate seat to contest Chris Murphy this fall is a primary battle between Matthew Corey and Dominic Rapini; there is a state senator race between Pam Staneski and Anthony Giannattasio; there is a state treasurer contest between Thad Gray and Art Linares; a comptroller race between Kurt Miller and Mark Greenberg; and an attorney general race between Sue Hatfield and John Shaban.
