Flash Flooding Possible in Milford Friday, Saturday

Mayor Ben Blake urges residents to 'be alert' as heavy rain nears.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a minimum of 3 to 5 inches of rain to fall in Milford over the next couple days.

A flash flood watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon, as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

The heaviest rain is expected Friday afternoon through early Saturday, the service warns. Maximum hourly rates could reach between 1 and 2 inches.

Urban and poor drainage areas will be particularly vulnerable to flash flooding, according to the service.

The impending heavy rain and potential flash flooding has Mayor Ben Blake urging residents to "be alert."

In a statement on the city's official Facebook page, Blake writes:

"Milford residents are asked to be alert and careful around fast moving water near rivers, streams, and railroad overpasses.

"With the likely chance of flooding in areas of low elevation, please take all necessary precautions, including moving vehicles to higher ground.

"Thank you and be safe."
