Kayaker Rescued After Overturning Near Walnut Beach In Milford: FD

A passerby on shore heard cries for help coming from the water, according to fire officials.

MILFORD, CT — A kayaker was rescued from the water late Friday after overturning near Walnut Beach.

Marine units with the Milford Fire Department responded around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a call about a swimmer in the water yelling for help.

A passerby on shore had heard the cries and called 911, fire officials said, in an announcement.

Emergency responders arrived and quickly rescued the person from the water.

The person had no apparent injuries and had been in the water for about an hour, officials said. Crews transported the individual to a nearby emergency room for evaluation and treatment.

An investigation showed the kayak overturned because of a larger vessel’s wake, according to the fire department.

Officials cautioned people to always wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket during all water activities.
