Milford Fire Department Receives Grant For Knox Box System
FEMA has awarded the Milford Fire Department the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant.

MILFORD, CT – The Milford Fire Department has been awarded the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant by FEMA.
The grant will fund upgrades to the Knox Box system the Milford Fire Department uses.
Knox Boxes allow the Fire Department to quickly enter buildings when the owner/manager/worker is not on site, Adam Hansen, Milford Fire Department PIO, said.

The key boxes on the apparatus will be changed to new units to have a remote ekey, Hansen said.
There are 230 Knox Boxes throughout the city. The upgrade will consist of removing and replacing the key lock cylinder with a keyless entry lock, Hansen said.

Milford Fire Department will also receive a number of padlocks that the remote eKey will unlock, ideal for the Marine 3 Conex box.
The grant will streamline the operations and, combined with the dedicated work of the Fire Marshal’s Office, will lower the physical height of all Knox Boxes, allowing for quick access to buildings, Hansen said.
The grant will also increase the department's accountability for who and when keys are removed/used, Hansen said.
