Milford Lawmaker Hails Final Passage of Child Abuse Hotline Bill

State Rep. Pam Staneski introduced the bill to increase accessibility to the child abuse hotline.

HARTFORD- State Representative Pam Staneski (Milford & Orange) applauded final legislative passage of a proposal she introduced this session which would increase accessibility to the child abuse hotline.

The proposal which passed unanimous in the House of Representatives would require the posting of the child abuse hotline in each public school and open-enrollment charter school in a clearly visible location in a public area of the school that is readily accessible to students. The sign shall contain the toll free number in a clear, simple, and understandable format.

Staneski said, “This proposal is a simple, cost effective and unique way to reach students. It offers them access to professionals who can assist them and take the steps needed to ensure their well-being while in the safe environment of the school.”

The Department of Children and Families has a single point of contact statewide for the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect. The Child Abuse and Neglect Careline operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Anyone who suspects that a child has been abused or neglected or is in danger of abuse or neglect is strongly encouraged to call the Careline. DCF is required to tape record all reports to the Careline.
