Milford Lunch Truck Driver Charged With Morning Drunk Driving

More details emerged in a case where an alleged Milford drunk driver operating a box lunch truck caused damage to a parked car in Stamford before coming to a rest in a pile of construction gravel at an active building site, Stamford police said Thursday. 

According to authorities, a woman exiting the Stamford Market on Stillwater Ave. after picking up her mother on Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m. discovered her red Toyota RAV4, which had been parked along the street, had sustained damage down the entire side of the vehicle at some point during the five-minute stop. 

Responding officers talked to a witness who reported hearing a loud crash then reportedly found a lunch truck driving away after looking out the window, police said.

As police talked to the victim, two additional officers were dispatched to the scene of an active construction site in the area of Spruce St. and Finney Ln. for reports of a box lunch truck that came to a rest with the front end in a pile of construction gravel.

Authorities discovered a "Piece of Cake Catering" lunch truck stopped in gravel and identified the driver as Douglas L. Voytershark, 54, of W. Rutland Rd. in Milford. Police said construction workers reported Voytershark was having trouble standing and was dropping money on the ground as he attempted to make change prior to police arrival. Police also noted they witnessed Voytershark allegedly slurring his speech and was unable to form complete sentences.

As authorities searched the vehicle for a form of identification for Voytershark somewhere in the truck, police said they allegedly located a fanny pack with a prescription medication and a loaded .40-caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun, along with a valid pistol permit. Police noted the permit was seized at the time of the incident.

Police allegedly spotted damage to the lunch truck consistent with the damage reported to the victim's RAV4. Several beer cans were allegedly located in and about the cab of the truck.

Voytershark was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, failure to drive right and evading responsibility while in a motor vehicle.
