Student Enrollment Higher Than Projected: Milford Schools

MILFORD, CT – The preliminary enrollment number for Milford Public Schools 2023-24 school year is 5,284 students.

Dr. Anna Cutaia, superintendent of schools, presented the preliminary enrollment report to the Milford Board of Education on Monday, Aug. 28.

“We had a projection of 5,274 students,” Cutaia said.

The preliminary number of students enrolled in elementary school is 2,470 in the 2023-24 school year. In the previous year, the number was 2,459, making it an increase of 11 students.

At the middle school in the 2023-24 school year, the preliminary enrollment is 1,184, compared to 1,210 the year before.

In the high schools, the preliminary enrollment for the 2023-24 school year is 1,630, compared to 1,645 the year before.

In the elementary schools, Calf Pen has a preliminary enrollment number of 259, which was higher than projected.

“We projected it at 245, so they are a little higher,” Cutaia said. “At Orange Avenue, we projected 350, and they’re sitting at 367 and at Orchard Hills, we projected 314 and they have 332. Orchard Hills has been consistently increasing the numbers of the last couple of years.”

Sean Brennan, assistant superintendent of business and operations, said Orange Avenue Elementary School can accommodate the 367 enrolled students.

“As of right now, we are not maxed out with that number, and we can accommodate them,” he said.

The preliminary numbers at the middle schools are 367 for East Shore, 400 at Harborside and 417 at West Shore. At the high schools, the numbers are 840 at Jonathan Law High School, 731 at Joseph A. Foran High School, 42 at the Academy and 17 at the Parsons Programs.

“The middle and high school numbers are close to our projections,” Cutaia said. “A lot happens over the next couple of weeks. And we get a little more enrollment registration after Labor Day.”
