Milford's Bike Month's Cutting & Motivational Speaker is Colleen Kelly Alexander

The Bike Month Finale event will take place on Saturday, May 30.

After a fun-filled, successful month of biking in Milford, the City is gearing up for it’s Bike Month Finale on Saturday, May 30.

Mayor Ben Blake said he invites all residents and cyclists to join the East Coast Greenway Alliance and the City of Milford for a ribbon cutting, which will formally open the first contra-flow bike lane in Connecticut.

The ribbon cutting will be held at the entrance of Shipyard Lane and Harborside Drive, behind Wilcox Park at 5 p.m. Refreshments and free valet bike parking will be provided, as compliments of the East Coast Greenway Alliance.

Immediately following the ribbon cutting at 6 p.m., Milford City Hall is proud to host Colleen Kelly Alexander, a survivor, thriver, motivational speaker and biking enthusiast.

Hear Colleen tell her story about her struggles and the adversity she overcame, including a life threatening biking accident which drove her to run more than 50 races and compete in 15 post-accident triathlons.

“I am so honored to speak with a town that is working together so progressively to promote the importance of cycling in its community,” Alexander said. “The benefits of cycling are numerous and Milford’s efforts to promote cycling awareness, safety, and health is terrific.”

To register for the talk, please RSVP to BikeMilford@ci.milford.ct.us. Space is limited and seats will only be available that evening on a first come, first serve basis.

The ECG is one of the Nation’s longest biking trails, stretching from Calais, Maine to Key West, Florida. Of the 2,900 miles of trail, approximately 11 miles runs through Milford’s serene coastline and bustling city center. The ECG is a traffic-free biking trail, serving all ages and abilities.
