Obituary: Ann Wayne, 76, of Milford,

Ann was the proud founder of W.O.M.E.N. Inc., a local group supporting the Milford community.

Ann R. Wayne, 76, of Milford, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on August 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to the late Emanuel and Ann Russo on January 14, 1947, in Stamford, CT. She was also the beloved wife of the late James Palmer Wayne Sr., whom she joins in heaven.

Ann graduated from Milford High School and went on to cosmetology school.

She worked as a hairdresser for many years before opening her salon, Head Quarters, in Walnut Beach.

She also worked as a real estate broker, helping locals find their forever homes. In addition, Ann was the proud founder of the organization W.O.M.E.N. Inc., a local group that supports the Milford community.

Ann had a wonderful sense of humor, sass for days, and enjoyed a good party. She was a social butterfly, always out and about with family and friends.

Ann loved shopping and traveling, and if you needed to know something or wanted advice, you called Ann. Cissie, as her family affectionately called her, cherished hosting holidays and family gatherings. Her door was always open for company.

Some of her favorite memories were formed during her yearly trips to Puerto Rico, for over 40 years, with her husband, family and many of their friends.

Ann was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, godmother, grandmother and faithful friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Ann leaves behind her cherished children, Nicole Wayne, Jacqueline Ann (Timothy) Maloney, James P. Wayne, Jr.; grandchildren, Brendan Maloney, James P. Wayne III, and Shannon Maloney; brother Richard A. Russo Sr (Christine); nieces and nephews: Laurie A. Sheehan, Patrick A. Russo Jr, Richard A. Russo Jr., Lisa Foley, Sonya Abromavage, and Hans Bogaars; as well as several cousins and friends who are like family. In addition to her husband, James, she is predeceased by her brother, Patrick A. Russo, Sr.

Ann’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and care team at Smilow Cancer Hospital, who offered her the most skilled and compassionate care during her courageous battle with cancer. Jackie would also like to thank her sister, Nikki, for selflessly caring for her mother.

Friends and family are invited for calling hours on Monday, Aug. 28, at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., at 11 a.m. Please meet directly at church. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Milford, CT.
