Obituary: Phyllis June Cullen, 85, of Milford

Phyllis' greatest joy was her family. She worked many years at the Milford Public Library and was known for her caring, love and commitment.

MILFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) Phyllis June Cullen, 85, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 10, 2021, following a valiant eight-month battle with cancer.

She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.

Phyllis’ greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband Joseph W. Cullen.

The two celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past February. In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by her three loving children, Arlene Cullen and her husband Anthony Sturrus, Lisa Ruck and her late husband, Robin Ruck, and Eric Cullen and his wife, LuAnn Cullen.

Phyllis is cherished by her grandchildren, Emily Cullen, Daniel, and Nicholas Ruck and LeighAnn and MaryKate Cullen.

Phyllis was born on June 15, 1936. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Anne Salaemme Nacca. She is also survived by her sister, Rosie Marie Bradley and brother, Joseph L Nacca.

Phyllis loved living in Milford and enjoyed working for the Milford Public Library for 30 years as Library Supervisor and in her later years also added the duties of being a U. S. Passport Agent.

She loved to read, learn new things, and always welcomed others with her positive and caring demeanor. Phyllis loved gardening and took immense pride in her peony garden. Cooking was another one of her passions, whether it was making meals for her family or the legendary “pie day” made specifically for military veterans.

She along with her husband, Joe, were ardent supporters of the United States Marine Corps. and worked tirelessly to help him as the founder of the “Marines of Long Ago”

Her family knew her as a kind and peaceful spirit with a warm smile, possessing an enthusiastic sense of humor and strong family values. Phyllis’ most enduring love was for her family.

She instilled in them a keen sense of caring, love and commitment.

Phyllis will be dearly missed and remain forever in her family’s hearts.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St, Milford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Church (Precious Blood Parish), 400 Merwin Ave, Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH).

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may made on Phyllis’ behalf to either the MDS Foundation or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
