Obituary: Rita Marie Velky, 77, of Milford

MILFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) Rita Marie Velky, 77, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Richard Velky, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on March 15, 2022. Born on June 10, 1944 in Milford, CT, Rita was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary (DiBiase) Crocco.

Rita was a stay at home mom prior to working in the cafeteria at Foran High School for many years. She was an excellent cook and baker; to her, food was love and nothing brought her more joy than sharing that love with family and friends.

Rita was very active in the Orchard Hills PTA. She also enjoyed swimming and gained many friends through swimming at the Orange Community Center.

Rita enjoyed knitting items to donate to charitable organizations. She was a joy to be around and she will be missed by many.

Rita is survived by her children, Mary (Richard Leonard) Velky, Lisa (Joseph Leib) Velky-Leib, and Stephen Velky; her grandchildren, Louise Rita Leonard and Ruby Scarlett Leonard; her siblings, Pasquale (Beverly) Crocco, Jr., Raymond (Sue) Crocco, Diane Dymarcik, and Caroline Karan; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Rita was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony, Leonard, Ernest, and Michael Crocco; and her sister, Mary Louise Lydiksen.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Orange Visiting Nurses Association and Orange Health Care for their endless compassion and care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT 06460 (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH).

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes.
