Kim Soto, of Shelton, was born and raised in New Orleans, and is now bringing the southern Louisiana culture to her new restaurant located in Milford, according to the New Haven Register. Soto previously had a restaurant located in Shelton, but moved to Milford for more space.

Carol Tonucci wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page, “Wish you were still in Shelton...miss you!”

Soto’s restaurant, Queen Zuri New Orleans Delicacies, located at 248 Bridgeport Ave., is named after her daughter Zuri, 15, who often helps out at the restaurant with her father, and Soto’s husband, retired Stratford police officer Orlando Soto, and Soto’s sister, Evelyn Hassan, the Register reported.

Soto told the Register her food is a combination of French, British and other international influences to create a combination she calls “happy.” Queen Zuri’s menu will continue to grow in the future, Soto said, by adding po’ boys, sandwiches with meat served on a baguette, but already features an extensive selection of New Orleans inspired foods.

Soto said she believes it’s important to give back to others through her success, and she donates 10 percent of her earnings to her church, the Vertical Church in West Haven, to help fund church missions.
