Strong Thunderstorms Move Into Fairfield/New Haven County: NWS

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Fairfield and New Haven counties.

FAIRFIELD/NEW HAVEN COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for a strong thunderstorm that is moving through parts of Fairfield and New Haven counties.

"At 510 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Shelton, moving northeast at 30 mph," the weather service said. "...HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail."

"IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible."

Locations impacted include: New Haven, Milford, Shelton, Hamden, Stratford, Trumbull, Cheshire, Branford, North Haven, Monroe, Seymour, North Branford, Orange, Derby, and Prospect.

Additionally, a heat advisory has been issued from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday. Heat index values up to 103 expected. "High temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur....High temperatures and humidity will continue Friday and Saturday."
