Tesla Supercharger Opens at Connecticut Post Mall

Tesla held a ribbon cutting at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford for the newest Supercharger. Mayor Blake joined the celebration.

From Stu Loeser and Company: Tesla held a ribbon cutting with property owner and manager Centennial at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford for the newest Supercharger, which is the largest on the East Coast with 14 charging stalls. This opening is part of the recent announcement to double the charging infrastructure globally. Will Nicholas of Tesla was joined at the event by Benjamin Blake, Mayor of Milford; State Representative Pam Staneski; Dan Kiley, General Manager of Connecticut Post Mall; and Michael Lynch, Chairman of the Milford Economic Development Commission.

Friday’s event comes as the Connecticut General Assembly considers House Bill 7097, which would authorize the direct sale of electric vehicles without existing dealership franchise agreements. If passed, the bill would encourage electric vehicle adoption in Connecticut, reduce carbon emission, create job opportunities and economic development and decrease public healthcare costs.

“Tesla is committed to doing everything necessary to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in Connecticut, and growing the state’s charging network is an important part of this mission,” said Will Nicholas, Government Relations Manager for Tesla. “Investments like these are the first of many to come. If we're allowed to sell our products in Connecticut with the passage of HB 7097, we will open many locations that will further educate the general public on the benefits of sustainable energy. For now, we are very pleased to work with cities like Milford and places of commerce like the Connecticut Post Mall.”

"We're thrilled that a major company at the forefront of technology has decided to expand its footprint here at Connecticut Post Mall with parent company Centennial, enhancing our shoppers’ amenities and experience,” said Dan Kiley, General Manager of Connecticut Post Mall. “Tesla's 14-stall electric car Supercharger station in the Connecticut Post Mall parking lot is the largest on the East Coast, and the latest milestone in our ongoing commitment to providing the best service and experience for our visitors, in addition to our retail, dining and entertainment options. Additionally, this partnership with Tesla aligns with Centennial's 5-Year Strategic Energy and Sustainability Plan, and will serve as a roadmap for increasing energy efficiency and environmentally friendly practices across the entire Centennial portfolio.”

“Tesla has been, and continues to be, a good friend to Milford,” said Michael Lynch, Chairman of the Milford Economic Development Commission. “The strategic investments they’ve made in our community are improving our infrastructure, raising our profile as a center of commerce, and putting us on a path towards sustainable transportation.”

With the opening of the Milford Supercharger, Tesla now operates five Superchargers and 27 destination chargers across Connecticut. By the end of 2017, the company plans to open eight more Superchargers and up to 25 more destination chargers in the state.
