A $57 Cab Fare? Okay, $45 It Is!

A 50-year-old Woodbridge man called police to complain about a taxi cab driver, who allegedly kept the meter running while pumping gas during a stop along the way from Bridgeport to Monroe at around 6:27 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The cabbie, a 55-year-old Derby man, charged him $57, but the passenger became angry, arguing that he took the same cab ride before and the fare is normally no more than $45.

Police said the Woodbridge man believed the extra money came from the meter running when the driver got gas and he didn’t feel he should have to pay for the extra time. When he lost his temper, the cab driver called police, according to the report.
