The Fire Marshal believes the cause of the blaze was related to the misuse of an extension cord, according to officials reporting on Facebook.

Firefighters were on site until 1 a.m.

"Due to the seasonal increase in house fires we continue to stress the importance of having working smoke alarms throughout the house, early notification of 911, practicing two ways to exit the home, and having a designated meeting place outside to account for all family members," fire officials posted on social media.

Due to the damage, the residents had to secure alternative temporary housing.
