Brush Fire Reported In Monroe: UPDATE

The brush fire was reported Tuesday afternoon.

MONROE, CT — Shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, town-wide volunteer firefighters responded to a brush fire on Hattertown Road near Guinea Road, fire officials said.

"It took volunteer firefighters from Stepney, Monroe, and Stevenson over an hour to extinguish the fire, which was on a steep, wooded hill and spread into a resident’s yard. No structures were damaged and no one was injured," fire officials said.

The Botsford Fire Department responded with a tanker truck and Long Hill Fire Department responded with an engine crew, while White Hills Fire Department provided town-wide station coverage.

Monroe police closed the road during the incident, and Monroe EMS stood by on scene in case of any firefighter injuries, officials said.

"Brush fire risk remains elevated, with a High rating from CT DEEP based on today’s conditions. Residents are reminded to use extreme caution with any source of ignition in these dry and breezy conditions, and open burning remains suspended," Monroe fire officials said.

Original post: MONROE, CT — The Town of Monroe announced on Tuesday afternoon that there is a brush fire in the area of Guinea Road and Hattertown Road.

Fire and Police personnel and the First Selectman are currently on-site. Please proceed with caution in that area, officials said.
