MONROE, CT — After 25 Years in Clock Tower Square on Main Street in Monroe, Carl Anthony Trattoria is closing.

Fans of the restaurant's "new school" Italian cuisine shouldn't look to drown their sorrows in their Chianti, however. Chef/Owner Sam Devellis has pledged the eatery will "re-appear in a nearby neighborhood," which will be announced early this year.

The reason for the move?

"It's been a great run, and we're just outgrowing our space, so we're looking for a little larger location," the restaurateur told Patch.

The look of the new digs will be a "little updated," but Devellis said not to expect many more changes beyond the cosmetic.

Devellis and his brother Joe overhauled what was once a neighborhood pizza joint into the current incarnation, which became the flagship eatery of their Carl Anthony Restaurant Group. That tasty portfolio now includes Gioves Pizza Kitchen, Carl Anthony Catering, Carl Anthony Pizza Truck, and Bill’s Drive-in.

The impetus has always been to be just a little bit different, according to Devellis:

"Everybody did red sauce in Italian. So they went right, I always went left. My idea was just to make it a little more cutting edge, a little fun, a little progressive, and a little more inclusive of some different cuisines. I definitely feel like I've accomplished that."

The move comes as the Carl Anthony Restaurant Group enters into a partnership with Market Hospitality Group, which operates restaurants in Woodbury, Danbury, Avon, Newtown, Litchfield, Brookfield and Shelton, according to the company's website.
