Cat Killed In Fire; Resident Taken To Hospital: Monroe Authorities
A home health aide and police officers carried an occupant who was disabled to safety, and the person was taken to the hospital.
MONROE, CT — A person was brought to the hospital and a cat died after a fire Saturday evening in Monroe, according to officials.
Firefighters were called shortly after 6:30 p.m. to the Northbrook Condominiums on Rosewood Circle, where they found fire on the second floor and smoke on the third floor of a four-unit townhouse-style building, authorities said.
A home health aide and police officers carried an occupant who was disabled to safety, and the person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. A cat died from the smoke, authorities said.

The fire originated in the kitchen and was deemed accidental, according to the department. The unit where the fire started was heavily damaged and an adjacent unit was damaged by smoke, authorities said.
“We stress the importance of having working smoke alarms and quickly evacuating and not going back into the building,” the department said in a social media post.
