Chicks, Bunnies, Goats: Monroe Harmony Grange Fair This Weekend

The fair will feature live animals, seminars, exhibits, flower, vegetable and egg contests

MONROE, CT — The Harmony Grange will host its 129th annual agricultural fair on Saturday, Aug. 25th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fair will feature seminars, live animals, exhibits, flower, vegetable and egg contests. Winners will receive cash prizes. Breakfast and lunch will b available.

  • 9:15 a.m. — "Seed Saving and Swapping" will be hosted by Forest Clinton of Super Duper Seed Swap, and will teach people how to select, store and swap seeds.
  • 10 a.m. — Beekeeping 101, will be hosted by educator Karen Turner. Participants will learn about the equipment and basic care involved in keeping bees.
  • 11 a.m. — Goats 101, will be hosted by Michelle Nardozzi of Newbury Farms. Participants will learn the useful and rewarding aspects of raising goats.
  • 12:30 a.m. — Bunnies 101, will be hosted by Caroline Flader of Benedict’s Home & Garden. Participants will learn about what is required in keeping rabbits.
  • 1:30 p.m. — Chickens 101, hosted by Traci Torres of My Pet Chicken, will describe the time, money and equipment involved in the care of chickens.

Fairgoers who want to register entries for judging should bring them to Harmony Grange lower level, 2 Shelton Road, on Friday, Aug. 24, between 3 and 6 p.m., or between 8 and 9 a.m. on the day of the fair.

The grange is located at 2 Shelton Road, at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111. Extra parking is available near the Monroe Fire House.
