Child, 2, Shot In Monroe, Police Investigate: Police
The child was taken to a local hospital and is undergoing surgery on Wednesday.

MONROE, CT — A 2-year-old child was shot in Monroe Tuesday night and police are investigating the circumstances around the shooting, police said.
At 9:21 p.m. police responded to the intersections of Route 110 and Osborn Lane for an emergency medical incident. Upon arrival, police found a 2-year-old boy had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and foot.
The child was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, later being taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further treatment. The child is currently undergoing surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.

"Through an investigation, Officers and Detectives determined the incident took place at the juvenile's residence on Wheeler Road in Monroe," police said. "Upon learning of the injuries, the juvenile mother's attempted to transport to a local hospital for treatment before calling 911. Detectives are currently investigating the circumstance under which the injuries occurred. The investigation is active and ongoing."
In a statement released publicly, Terrence P. Rooney, the town's first selectman, said, "Our hearts go out to the family and our community as the police continue their investigation of last nights shooting incident involving a young child. I humbly ask that as concerned compassionate community members, we respect the privacy of the family and the articulate efforts of our law enforcement professionals at this time."
