CT Patch Candidate Profile: Tony Scott For State Representative

MONROE, CT — Election Day on Nov. 5 is fast approaching, and there are a number of key races on the ballot in Monroe.

Patch reached out to candidates for office to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing the city and state.

What office are you seeking? State Representative

District: 112th House District

Party affiliation: Republican

Education: Graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Journalism and a Minor in History

Occupation: Marketing Executive at Edgewell Personal Care in Shelton, CT for last 6 years

Family: Married to my wife Jenn for 21 years. Have twin 15-year-old girls, Lauren & Addison.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? No.

Previous public office, appointive or elective:

I have served two terms as State Representative, taking office in 2021. I also served on Monroe's Town Council and Monroe's Park & Recreation Commission for 9 years and as Chairman for last 6 years.

Why are you seeking this office?

To continue to fight against unfunded mandates, for lower taxes and maintain local control by municipalities.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

#1 issue is how unaffordable CT is. We need to eliminate unfunded mandates, lower excessive utility costs and lower taxes to make it affordable to live here.

There have been an alarming number of deaths on Connecticut's roadways. Is there anything from a legislative standpoint that can be done to address that?

Need stricter penalties for driving under influence and also more visible signage to prevent wrong way drivers.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

They are vast as I will focus on what will directly help folks in my district at the local level, while my opponent only focuses on national issues she has no control over.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

My record is very clear. I am fiscally conservative and socially moderate. I have had a perfect grade from the CBIA in supporting businesses in CT. My focus will be to support them to help grow the economy with better jobs while making it more affordable to live in CT.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I have been the Ranking Member on the Housing Committee and will continue to work to support Monroe, Easton and Trumbull to keep Local Control in their zoning laws and not allow bureaucrats in Hartford to dictate what is best for their unique towns.
