An Economy that Works for All of Us: Working families, the backbone of our economy, must be protected from undue and unfair burdens. They need fiscal policies that meet the needs of everyday people – living wages, affordable choices about how and where they live, and protections for workers, workers’ rights, and workers’ needed benefits. Busy and burdened families and workers need a committed, powerful voice in Hartford to advocate for them.
Reproductive Freedom and Access to Affordable Healthcare: Everyone must be able to make choices about their own bodies without government interference, and to access affordable healthcare – including prescription drugs -- that will allow them to live in dignity and provide for their families.
Public Education: All people, from all communities, must be prepared to enter the workforce and compete for jobs that provide a living wage. Vocational and trade programs must enable workers to pivot to new skills and opportunities as job markets evolve.
Affordable Housing: All citizens must have access to affordable housing that meets their needs, including options near public transit and protections for renters.
Supporting Core Democratic Processes: Everyone should be allowed to participate in our democratic process without hardship: expanding voting access (including no-excuse absentee voting) and increasing government transparency encourage citizen engagement. Campaign financing reform keeps special interests from having undue influence.
The youngest of three, Ms. Cliff was born and raised with her sister and brother in a small, rural town in northern Connecticut. She has more than 30 years of business experience in sales, marketing, and consulting, where collaboration and problem solving were essential to her success. Beth and her husband Gordon live in Easton and have two grown daughters Lorraine and Helen. Throughout her demanding corporate career and while raising a family, Ms. Cliff has cared deeply about the challenges women, families and communities face. Ms. Cliff has a long history of lifting her voice for women’s rights and is passionate about the issues that affect families and those who are often under- represented.
Ms. Cliff is the endorsed candidate for the majority Democratic Party and therefore will have a seat at the table when decisions are made in Hartford. She will be working for all voters to bring home state resources to the communities of Monroe, Easton and Trumbull.
She has also been endorsed by the Independent Party, reflecting her desire to rise above a strictly two- party system, so good ideas are embraced regardless of who or where they originate, and divisive rhetoric is eliminated in public discourse.
“I have the time, opportunity and energy to put in the long hours this job requires — not just in the General Assembly, but around town,” Cliff said during a recent interview. “Especially listening to people and what’s on their minds and then fighting for their needs in Hartford.”
“If there ever were a time to DO and not just TALK, it is now,” Ms. Cliff explained when asked why she came out of retirement to do this work. “My daughters’ futures – and those of all our children – depend on it.”
