House Cat Revived After Monroe Blaze

Firefighters battled a blaze on Old Tannery Road Thursday morning.

MONROE, CT — A local family's cat was revived by firefighters after an early morning house fire on Old Tannery Road, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 Inc. The department said they found a cat from a fire which broke out at around 2 a.m.

The family's functioning smoke detector was credited for saving their lives. Firefighters and EMS professionals revived the cat with oxygen due to smoke inhalation.

Fire Marshal Bill Davin said the family was asleep at the time of the fire, and was woken up by the working smoke detectors.

"Without working smoke detectors the outcome of this fire would be much different," Davin said. "The fire marshal reminds all residents to test your smoke detectors monthly and change the batteries a minimum of twice a year."
