MONROE, CT — A body was recovered from the Housatonic River at the base of the Stevenson Dam on Monday, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

Police responded to a call from a fisherman reporting a person in distress at the dam at 3:18 p.m., WTNH News-8 reported.

An older man was seen walking across the dam before going over the edge. People were boating and swimming in the water 125 feet below, according to WTNH News-8.

Police confirmed that there was a body in the water by using a dive camera.

Police are investigating and no identification of the body has been made. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been notified.
