Monroe Averaging Less Than 3 Coronavirus Cases Per Day: Kellogg

First Selectman Ken Kellogg issued an update Monday on the town's efforts at combating the coronavirus.

MONROE, CT — Coronavirus infections in Monroe are averaging about two and a half cases per day, according to First Selectman Ken Kellogg, who issued an update Monday on the town's effort at fighting the disease.

Below is the full announcement:

Case rates in Monroe have remained fairly steady, currently averaging approximately 2 1/2 new cases per day.

As has been widely reported, there are now booster recommendations for all three COVID vaccines. Specifically:

  • For individuals who received Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot 6 months or more after their initial series:

-Everyone 65 years and older

-Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings, have certain underlying medical conditions, or who work or live in certain high-risk settings

  • All individuals age 18+ who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine two or more months ago are recommended to receive a booster shot.
  • Links to these specific CDC recommendations on booster eligibility can be found at www.MonroeCT.org/COVID-19.
  • Mixing & Matching: Both the FDA and CDC recommendations now support individuals to receive a booster dose that is a different vaccine type than they originally received for their primary series, if they so choose.

• We have placed vaccine orders with the State, in anticipation of running booster clinics for eligible groups starting in early November. Individuals may also search for healthcare systems and pharmacies in our area that are providingvaccinations from the link on our website at www.MonroeCT.org/COVID-19.

• Next week we anticipate final authorization for a Pfizer pediatric vaccine for ages 5-11.

o While we expect this vaccine to be available through multiple sources, including some pediatrician offices, we are working with Monroe Public Schools to determine parental interest in conducting a Town-sponsored clinic. Families should be on the lookout for an email tomorrow through School Messenger. Parents of Monroe students who do not attend school in Monroe may indicate their interest by emailing VaxHelp@MonroePS.org.
