Monroe Firefighters Tackle Dryer And Machine Fires

Monroe volunteer firefighters quickly contained fires on Knorr Road and Main Street, preventing injuries and major damage.

MONROE, CT — Volunteer firefighters in Monroe responded to two unrelated fires within 24 hours, one at a home on Knorr Road and another at a manufacturing building on Main Street, officials said.

Firefighters were called Tuesday afternoon to the Knorr Road residence after a clothes dryer began sparking and smoking. Crews confirmed the fire had not spread beyond the appliance, removed it from the home, and ventilated the building using fans, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department officials.

The night before, firefighters were dispatched around 10 p.m. to a large manufacturing facility on lower Main Street for a reported fire alarm. When they arrived, a production machine was found to be burning. Crews quickly contained the flames to the machine and remained on scene for about two hours to clear smoke from the building.
