Toddler Shooting Leads To 2 Arrests: Monroe Police

The boy had to have surgery and survived his injuries after the July 2024 incident, police said.

MONROE, CT – Two Monroe residents were arrested on warrants Monday in connection with the accidental shooting of a two-year-old boy last July.

Barrington Strauchn, of 607 Wheeler Rd., was charged with risk of injury to a child and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Keith Brown, of the same address, was charged with failure to store/secure firearms with responsibility to restrict access to a minor, and eight counts of illegal possession of high capacity magazines.

The arrests stem from a July 23, 2024 incident at the men’s 607 Wheeler Rd. residence in which the child suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and foot. The boy had to have surgery and survived his injuries. According to police, the child’s mother found him after the accident.

The two men surrendered at the Monroe Police Department after learning of warrants for their arrests, police said.

Both men are free after posting bail. Strauchn is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 28 in Superior Court in Bridgeport, while Brown’s arraignment is slated for Feb. 5.
