Neighbor Sees House On Fire, Calls For Help: Monroe Authorities

The neighbor was walking by and noticed the side of the home ablaze, according to authorities.

MONROE, CT — A neighbor contacted authorities after finding a house on fire Saturday in Monroe, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 4:45 p.m. to William Henry Drive after the neighbor was walking by and noticed the side of the home ablaze, according to authorities. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The house was empty at the time and, while the garage was full of smoke, there was limited smoke damage to the living area of the home, authorities said, adding the cause was accidental and crews were back in service within an hour.

“Monroe FD Chief (Kevin) Catalano noted had it not been for an alert passerby and the quick actions of first arriving police officers and volunteer firefighters, the damage would have been much worse,” according to a social media post from Monroe Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Inc.
