Obituary: Jeffrey A. Semon, 74, Former Masuk Teacher And Coach

Jeffrey A. Semon, 74 and long time resident of Monroe CT passed away unexpectedly September 2, 2017 at NYU Langone Medical Center in N.Y. from complications of valve replacement surgery.

Born on February 2, 1943 in Astoria, N.Y., Jeff graduated from Defiance College with a BA in History. He then received two Masters in History from Hillsdale College and University of Bridgeport.

Jeffrey began his 35yr teaching career in Wauseon, OH subsequently moving to Monroe, CT where he joined the faculty at Masuk H.S. in 1968. He was highly respected by fellow teachers, parents, and students for his ability to make history relevant, and to challenge them to be independent thinkers.

His interests included hockey at all levels. He started the Masuk H.S. Hockey Program which the team won the State championship in 1982-83. In addition, he was an avid N.Y. Islanders fan, environmentalist, cat-lover, photographer, and prodigious reader.

He is survived by his brother Arthur Semon and his wife Jane P. Semon of Richmond, VA, nephew and his wife Grant and Sarah Reynolds and great niece Matty Reynolds all of Los Angeles, CA and numerous cousinsIn lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jeffrey'a memory to the Masuk H.S.
