Outdoor Art Installation on Stepney Green Tells Tale of Forbidden Love

The project is part of a joint collaboration between the Save Our Stepney Task Force (SOS) and the Town of Monroe.

Monroe, CT — The Monroe Department of Economic and Community Development recently announced the installation of the second in a series of “Art on the Green,” installations located on Main Street at the intersection of Routes 25 and 59 on the Stepney green.

"The Story of Abelard and Heloise told through Porcelain," stands in the outdoor gallery as a public are display and tell the tale of "one of the most celebrated couples of all time, known for their forbidden love affair... and for the tragedy that separated them," the Monroe Department of Economic and Community Development said.

According to Travel France, the pair are entombed together and are the first residents of the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. "The lovers were the unfortunate heroes of the most beautiful love story of French history, a mythical couple whose love survived the separation," the website states.

The art installation project is part of a joint collaboration between the Save Our Stepney Task Force (SOS) and the Town of Monroe. The sculptures will be shown in the gazebo on the Stepney green now through August 27, 2016.
