Police: 4 Shops Fail Tobacco Compliance Inspections In Monroe
In a sting conducted alongside agents from state law enforcement, the Monroe PD cited four shops for selling tobacco products to minors.
MONROE, CT — In a sting operation conducted alongside State agencies, the Monroe Police Department cited four businesses for selling tobacco or vaping products to minors.
On Oct. 17, Monroe police and staff members of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, conducted unannounced compliance inspections of 14 shops that sell tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery products. Four of the shops made the sale, in violation of the state law.
The offending clerks at these retailers were issued an infraction in the amount of $300:

- Noble, 195 Monroe Turnpike
- Stop and Go Food Mart, 612 Main Street
- Grassy Plains Smoke Shop, 838 Main Street
Retailers are required by state law to inspect the photo ID of anyone who appears under the age of 30 before selling a tobacco product or electronic cigarette.
