Property In Foreclosure, Monroe Animal Shelter Scrambles To Place Pets
A Monroe animal shelter is going out of business. What happens to the animals currently living there?
MONROE, CT — A local animal shelter has just a little over two months to find forever homes for the cats and dogs it houses before it shutters for good.
The SPCA Animal Shelter's property at 359 Spring Hill Road is in foreclosure and going to auction on May 6, and has until then to place the 14 cats and 19 dogs currently in its care.
"Financial constraints have made it impossible to continue operations," according to a news release from the shelter.

Many of the cats and dogs are in perfect health, are socialized, and are highly adoptable, according to the shelter, which has been in operation for 16 years. Others are older, or may require "patient homes understanding of their special needs." Those not adopted before the shelter goes out of business "would be at high risk of being euthanized," according to a volunteer cited on the organization's GoFundMe campaign page.
"We are doing everything we can to find these deserving dogs and cats a home, but we desperately need help!" a shelter spokesperson posted on the fundraising site.

The organization is also looking for monetary contributions to pay veterinarian bills and "placement fees for other animal shelters and (hopefully) no-kill rescues to save the 'less adoptable' that do not find their happily ever after in a forever home."
Adoptable animals can be viewed on the SPCA Animal Shelter's PetFinder page here.
