Race 4 Chase Honoring Sandy Hook Victims to be Held Sunday in Monroe

The annual race on July 10 in Monroe honors Chase Kowalski, students and educators who died in the Sandy Hook School shootings.

Monroe, CT — Hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters are preparing for Sunday's Race 4 Chase on Sunday, July 10 at Great Hollow Lake in Monroe.

The race is in remembrance of Chase Kowalski, as well as the students and educators of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

"CMAK strives positive force to inspire community healing through family and children-focused initiatives and programs. By focusing on emotional healing and physical health & wellness, we will positively change the lives of children and their families," the foundation wrote on their website.

The family said that Chase was a runner shortly after he learned to walk.

"I remember one day we were at CVS, he took off running down the aisles and we could hardly catch him," his mother Rebecca said.

Chase began running at the Bethel High summer track program where he competed in his first events— the 50 meter, the 100 meter and the 400 meter, she said.

"The CMAK Foundation is inspired by the life of Chase Kowalski and honors his memory through its works and activities to heal and strengthen children, families and communities. Join us to Triumph over Tragedy and make a positive impact in our world."

The USA Triathlon-sanctioned event includes a family-friendly swim, bike and run competition for ages 6-12 years old. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. Opening ceremonies on the beach begin at 8:45 a.m.
