Supermarket Scene Leads to Arrest in Monroe

A man was arrested after he drove a stolen car in a supermarket parking lot and tried to flee from police by pulling down aisle displays.

An East Haven man caused quite a supermarket scene earlier this month as he drove a stolen vehicle in a parking lot and tried to flee from police by pulling down displays in the supermarket aisles.

Andrew Delillo, 38, was arrested at 11:34 a.m. Jan. 15 after officers responded to a report by the loss prevention specialist at Big Y Supermarket, located at 535 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe, that a man was wandering the store who was identified as a suspect in a purse theft at the Big Y Supermarket in Branford, according to a Monroe police news release.

Officers approached Delillo to identify him and during their investigation found the stolen vehicle he had driven in the lot, the release states.

Delillo was arrested and charged with using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission, interfering with an officer, breach of peace, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief in the third degree. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was transported to the New Haven Correctional Center and remanded for parole violation.
