Naugatuck FD Offers Hurricane, Tropical Storm Preparation Tips

The Naugatuck Fire Department has provided a list of hurricane and tropical storm preparation tips​ for residents to keep in mind.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck fire officials noted this week they are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Erin and have provided a list of hurricane and tropical storm preparation tips for residents to keep in mind.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, fire officials said model guidance Wednesday "shows [Erin] becoming a hurricane and going out to sea" and noted the department will know more information after the weekend.

"As we enter peak hurricane season, now is a good time to review your emergency plans and make preparations for a hurricane or tropical storm," fire officials wrote on Facebook.

The following hurricane and tropical storm preparation tips were provided by the Naugatuck Fire Department:

  • Bring in outdoor items such as furniture, plants and grills.
  • Clear gutters and check roof.
  • Board up windows or install shutters.
  • Stock water, food and medication.
  • Charge phones and power banks.
  • Protect important documents and review insurance coverage.
  • Know your evacuation route.
  • Fill up your gas tank.

"Don't wait," the post reads, "prepare before a storm hits!"
