Popular Pizzeria Closes After Nearly 5 Decades In Naugatuck, Plans To Reopen 'Somewhere New'

A popular pizzeria recently closed its doors in Naugatuck after nearly five decades in business but hopes to reopen "somewhere new."

NAUGATUCK, CT — A popular pizzeria closed its doors in Naugatuck last week after nearly five decades in business, however the restaurant's team hopes to reopen "somewhere new" in the future.

Mike's Pizza Palace, located at 28 Church Street, officially closed Friday and the building is being sold, according to an announcement posted to the business' Facebook page.

"Like many small businesses, we've faced some tough challenges that made this day come much sooner than we hoped," the announcement reads.

A description on the pizzeria's Facebook page notes that Mike's Pizza "is a family-owned business run by George Mouzas with the help of his family. George immigrated to the United States from Greece. You will catch him in the back kitchen making the dough, sauce and meatballs, using the same recipe since 1978."

The closing announcement also thanked the restaurant's loyal customers for all their support throughout the years.

"Generations of families, loyal customers, teams and friends who've made this place feel like home," the announcement reads. "We've shared a lot of memories, laughs and late night pizzas, and we're grateful for every one of them."

The pizzeria's team also teased plans to hopefully reopen the business at a later date.

"This isn't goodbye, it's just see you later," the announcement reads. "We're hopeful to reopen somewhere new and continue serving the community that's been so good to us."
