Police are actively looking for whoever abandoned the dog.

A non-profit organization, Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates, has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of whoever is responsible. Reach Desmond’s Army at 413-717-8445.

According to Desmond’s Army, the dog, now named “Cassie,” was left out during heavy rain and cold temperatures, and she was both exhausted and dehydrated when she was found.

Zilla Cannamela, president and founder of the organization, urged anyone with information to come forward.

“Abandoning a mother in labor, leaving her to suffer alone in the rain and cold, is an act of profound cruelty that no animal should ever endure," Cannamela said. "We're offering this $5,000 reward because justice isn't just for her—it's a message that animal abusers will be held accountable.”

Anyone with information on the dog’s abandonment is asked to contact detectives at 203-564-6941, or provide an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 203-755-1234.
