Burglary Reported at Estate Sale in New Canaan

Two video cameras, each valued at $1,000, and an 18" color television were allegedly stolen from a home on Putnam Road where an estate sale was held Oct. 12 through Oct. 14. The burglary was reported to police on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 10:07 a.m.

According to police, a 42-year-old woman who was overseeing the estate sale told police she arrived at the home Sunday morning and quickly noticed that two black nylon bags, each containing a video camera, were missing from a display table that was in the garage.

When the woman left the day before, she said she made sure the house was locked. When she returned Sunday, a door leading into the garage was found unlocked and there was evidence that someone had been there overnight.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to the garage, and access was likely gained through windows. The thief then walked out of the garage door with the stolen wares. 

The case remains under investigation.

A 45-year-old Bridgeport man reported to police that a lawnmower valued at $650 went missing after he hired another man to transport the machine to New Jersey.

According to police, the man, who owns a company, was working at an Old Norwalk Road residence when he reported the theft on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 12:40 p.m.

The man said he saw the lawnmower on the truck that was enroute to New Jersey. When he arrived in New Jersey, the mower was gone. 

The case remains under investigation.
