Santa Claus Statue Stolen From Outside New Canaan Diner: Police

Police said the statue of Santa Claus holding a teddy bear and a Christmas list was on display in front of the diner prior to being stolen.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police are investigating the theft of a Santa Claus statue that was on display outside a New Canaan diner, a police report obtained by Patch reveals.

According to the report, the holiday statue was reported stolen Dec. 13 by an employee of The New Canaan Diner, located on Forest Street, who noticed it was missing from the front of the restaurant when they arrived at work that morning.

The statue is described by police as Santa Claus holding a Christmas list in his right hand and a teddy bear in his left hand with a green bag of presents at his feet.

The statue is approximately 5 feet tall and assembles in two pieces, according to police.

The owner told police she checked her security cameras after the theft and the footage showed four men approach the statue just after midnight.

One of the men could be seen in the security footage removing the statue, then proceeding with the group up Forest Street, according to the report.

Police Lt. Marc DeFelice said in an email Monday the investigation is ongoing.

A Santa statue similar to the description of the stolen item could be seen set up outside the diner Monday afternoon.

According to CT Insider, the owner was able to pick up a replacement statue in Goshen in time for a recent Christmas party at the diner.
