Ghosts Run A-Fowl in New Canaan

Here's a little something out-of-the-ordinary for New Canaan today: I want to share a quick and—what I find to be—hilarious story.

See, every week, New Canaan Patch does a little roundup of the top selling properties in the area. And every week, we try to grab a photo of one of the houses to showcase the beautiful architecture and grounds New Canaan has to offer. Saturday's installmentfeatured 424 South Avenue

So, South Avenue is a major throughway in the town and I managed to find the home while there was a lull in traffic, but I didn't want to try and squeeze over to the side of the road and cause a disruption should traveling cars arrive. So I slowly crawled past the home and snapped a couple pics out the window.

I turned onto Grace Street to check the photos I'd taken and see if I needed to maybe do another pass. I was looking through the photos and paused on the first picture here. My heart jumped into my throat.

I'd captured a ghost on film.

I'd managed to get what would appear to be a really solid shot of a ghost, a female, sauntering down the driveway. There she was, just walking down the driveway toward the road. I couldn't believe it.

I quickly flicked through the additional photos I'd taken. Were there more? Had she made additional appearances to me? Why would a ghost show up in a photo in the middle of the day when they're usually reserved for spooky night tales? I had so many questions and was more than a little excited about my discovery.

I'd found a ghost in New Canaan. In the middle of the day. Just walking around. This would be a great story.

I came upon another. There she was, this time standing in a bush near a tree. I stared intently at her. I lifted the phone towards my face and tried to study her details. Then I noticed something odd.

She was standing in almost the exact same position as she had been in the previous photo in which I'd captured her. I flipped back to the previous photo. Then again to the second one. She didn't change position in the slightest. I looked out the window through which I'd take the pictures.

There she was, standing off in the woods. She was following me. My heart skipped.

And then I realized what was happening.

I realized somewhere, a bird was flying just slightly more freely through the skies that morning. It had apparently "lightened" itself on my window. And had it known its handiwork had caused such a commotion, would probably be squawking its head off in fits of laughter.

Moral of the story: Don't park you car under trees frequented by large birds or you'll start seeing ghosts.

Sorry, New Canaan. I feel a little disappointed I couldn't share with you a great shot of a ghost walking around in your town. But I hope I at least shared a laugh.
