Town Seeks to Install Security Cameras at New Canaan Train Station

Officials need state approval to install a new security camera system.

Following the discovery of vandalism and the revelation that someone was living in the New Canaan train station, town officials reportedly want to spend about $10,000 to install security cameras at the ‘Next Station to Heaven.’

The state Department of Transportation owns the facility and town officials are seeking the agency’s approval to install the cameras, according to The New Canaanite. The cost of the cameras would paid with the $5 parking fees charged at the station.

Town officials said it was recently discovered that an acquaintance of a cab driver who works at the station was living in the building. And sometime between the Christmas and New Year holidays, someone denigrated a bathroom with feces, according to the report.

The addition of cameras would make it easier to police the area as local officials do not have access to the platform security cameras operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
