What's Open / What's Closed in New Canaan for Fourth of July?

CLOSED on July 4 for Independence Day:

• Banks have the option of remaining open in Connecticut, but hardly any do (see the major exception, below).
• New Canaan Library and other libraries
• Financial markets, such as the New York Stock Exchange
• Post offices
• Public schools that are otherwise still open this summer
• Town offices and agencies, including Town Hall.
• State offices, including the state Department of Motor Vehicles (which will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday). (PDF file for state holidays)
• U.S. government offices.

• Banks: all TD Banks.
• Restaurants, generally
• Grocery stores, generally
• Other businesses: open at the owner’s discretion.

What's DIFFERENT on July 4:

• CT Transit Buses (Stamford and Darien): "[A]ll buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. There will be no Express Bus service on the Fourth of July."
• Metro North service: A "The MTA will offer extra railroad service on Wednesday, July 3, to allow customers to get a head start on the Fourth of July holiday. On Thursday, July 4, subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule, and the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule."
