Author Stephanie Land Keynote At SCSU Poverty, Education Conference
Land's book 'Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive' was adapted by Netflix into the chart-topping series, 'Maid.'

NEW HAVEN, CT — A one-day conference at Southern Connecticut State University focused on supporting and lifting low-income parenting students features nationally-recognized and bestselling author Stephanie Land (Maid, Class) as the keynote speaker.
Class, Poverty, and Education: Exploring Resilience, Structural Barriers, and Policy Change for Low-Income Parenting Students is set for March 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Land, author and activist, her writing focuses on social and economic justice and "parenting under the poverty line."

Her debut book, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive, was a New York Times bestseller and adapted into a limited series on Netflix.
The conference provides a platform for discussing the intersectionality of poverty and education, breaking cycles of hardship, and implementing institutional and policy-level changes to empower low-income parenting students.

It's noted in a news release from SCSU that, "Attendees will gain valuable insights, practical tools, and networking opportunities to drive meaningful change."
Slated are engaging panel discussions, dynamic speed sessions, and practical workshops focused on "strategies for overcoming systemic barriers, fostering resilience, and driving policy changes to better support low-income parenting students," SCSU noted.
The conference will be held at SCSU's Michael J. Adanti Student Center, 501 Crescent St., New Haven.
