NEW HAVEN, CT —To celebrate JUNTE Boricua, a tourism initiative in Puerto Rico, and the first-ever Puerto Rican Day Parade in San Juan on May 18, Avelo Airlines added two nonstop flights from Tweed New Haven Airport to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

JUNTE Boricua is focused on connecting the Puerto Rican community in the states with the island, it's noted in a news release. Organizers and members of Connecticut’s Puerto Rican parades and festivals plan to participate in the opening weekend, Avelo noted. "While the initiative is geared at increasing tourism on the island, there is exciting potential here for a mutually beneficial partnership between the initiative and Connecticut," an Avelo spokesperson said.

Puerto Ricans United and Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven President Joe Rodriquez thanked the airline.

"Connecticut’s Puerto Rican community members approached Avelo to add the additional flights, and we were more than happy to help."
